Celebrate the power of art
Create a party atmosphere with refreshments, goody bags and drop-in activities. Invite your
local press.
The Ikon Gallery in Birmingham involved Nursery and Infant pupils from Streetsbrook Infant
School in Pets Galore. The children visited the exhibition of Jean-Frederic Schnyder over two days and then worked back
at the School with artist Lizzy Bean. Year 2 pupils made costumes with cardboard 'creepy crawly' chest-pieces while the
Reception class made animal masks and aprons. In addition, all the children worked on various backdrops and put together
a 'carnival' at the Gallery on Children's Art Day; and did a portrait of their pets (or imaginary pets) which were displayed
in the Gallery's events room. Families and the public were invited for a day of activities where the children had a chance
to show what they had done and to talk about their work.
