Make mini projects

Take the gallery into the community with small, targeted activities. Children's Art Day continues into the weekend directly after the Day, so you could run a three-day project linking a school visit with activities for their families at the weekend. Alfred East Art Gallery, Kettering involved 31 Year 5 pupils from Brambleside Primary School in Choose Art. The project was planned with the Gallery, artist Gary Price-Hunt and the class teacher. The children all chose an art work from the Gallery's collection and, over a series of days, worked with the artist and Gallery staff to make their own interpretation of their chosen painting, using a similar technique, medium or subject matter. At the end of the project the children wrote labels for their chosen art work and their own pictures, which were hung in an exhibition in the Gallery. A private view was held for family, friends and members of the public.
