About Artworks
From 1999 to 2004, the Artworks programme, devised and funded by the Clore Duffield
Foundation as part of its support for visual arts education in the UK, was driven by three key concerns:
- The need to raise the status of art & design in schools
- The need to increase the level of funding and other resources for art & design in schools
- The need to ensure sufficient opportunities and funding for schools to visit galleries and employ artists-in-residence
Following the cessation of the Foundation's funding in 2005, and due to wider ministerial
interest and an ever-growing engagement with the visual arts in schools, it was decided to review and reassess
the Artworks scheme - with a particular focus on the form and future of the Artworks: Young Artists of the Year
Awards. It is now hoped that Artworks: Young Artists of the Year Awards will be re-launched in a fresh
new format - this time organised and run by Tate. We will continue to post relevant information on
this site, including the launch date (when it is known), entry criteria and key contacts, so do please check
back to this and the Awards page for updates.
