How old do you have to be to be an artist?
Children's Art Day: 30 June 2005, Tate Modern
How old do you have to be to be an artist? was an Artworks event,
and the launch of a national debate, in association with NESTA, Tate and Demos (with The
Times Educational Supplement and Channel 4 as media partners). It was held on Children's Art
Day, 30 June 2005, at Tate Modern. The event addressed issues surrounding the status of
children's art - how it is taught, how it is influenced by artists and galleries, how it
has influenced artists, and why it is so rarely displayed outside of schools. Speakers
included Sir Nicholas Serota, Tate Director, David Lammy MP, Minister for Culture, Antony
Gormley, artist, and Camilla Batmanghelidjh, Director of Kids Company.
